Typical day:
This is usually mapped out the week before as the job requires a great deal of prior planning. Every morning I call every crew working in my patch to check their understanding of what is required and their preparedness to meet timescales. Attention to detail and a sense of urgency are vital as the environment we are working in is hazardous and there are risks that need to be assessed constantly. As a result of this I need to make and take lots of phone calls. I record everything on the computer and liaise with just about everyone in the company.
Before starting at Xmo Strata:
For a number of years I managed a wood carving business which entailed looking after production, as well as selling to firms like Harrods. Following this period, I managed three oil distribution depots in the North of England. This job involved significant experience in dealing with petrol filling stations and subsequently led to my involvement in the forecourt signage industry.
The thing I most enjoy about my job:
I enjoy structuring the component parts of a job before it starts and sorting out problems - although most of the enjoyment comes after, not during, the process.
Why I wanted to join Xmo Strata:
I have always enjoyed building up a business from sound foundations. Xmo has a very good platform and I was pleased to be asked to join the company to help to build upon that platform.
What makes Xmo Strata different to the rest?
I would say the openness of the people. You have the freedom to discuss different ways of doing things. You even have the freedom to make a mistake - as the saying goes, "A man who can't make a mistake, can't make anything".
