Name:
Antony Woods
Job title:
Site valeter/painter
Before joining Xmo Strata:
I carried out industrial painting on steel work.
My work at Xmo Strata includes:
My job varies depending on what needs doing on any particular day. Under my remit as a valeter/painter, I am responsible for valeting and jet washing signware, deep cleaning the petrol forecourt and painting fascias, vent pipes, light poles, pump islands, window frames and anything else specified by the customer.
Training needed to complete my work:
UK PIA, PASMA, IPAF, CSCS, Fire training and first aid.
Training courses completed since joining Xmo Strata:
When I joined Xmo I had quite a few of the qualifications needed already; the only additional training I have needed so far is UK PIA. I am never asked to do anything outside of my qualifications; if the need arose I would be fully trained in that specific area before being allowed to carry out work on-site.
A typical sign maintenance programme involves:
Valeting canopies and fascias on petrol forecourts, painting or re-touching signage, replacing ageing components and maintaining a high standard of health and safety throughout.
Problems that can arise on a sign maintenance project:
The weather can sometimes pose problems on site, particularly during periods of high winds or heavy rain. Sometimes it is necessary for me to work at height and in bad weather this can delay me in my work. In very bad weather conditions it is sometimes necessary to stop work at height and only continue with tasks that can be completed at ground level.
How I deal with any issues that arise on-site:
I would immediately inform my supervisor and communicate the situation to the site manager.
The best thing about my job:
I enjoy the work that I do and I am motivated by seeing the end result of my efforts.
The worst thing about my job:
Getting up early on Mondays is always difficult.
Why I wanted to work for Xmo Strata:
Xmo Strata offers far more job satisfaction than my previous employments. There are also far better job prospects, with the possibility of undertaking further training to develop my skills in this industry.
