Xmo Strata Rewards Safe Behaviour With A Trip To New York

3 March 2009

Employees of sign installation and maintenance firm Xmo Strata, will be vying for the chance to win a trip to the Big Apple in recognition of a proactive approach to workplace safety.

The prize, announced at Xmo Strata's annual Safety Day in Kent's stunning Turkey Mill conference venue in Maidstone, will be awarded as part of the firm's ongoing commitment to improving its safety culture.

“This award is not just about following protocol; wearing the correct PPE, filling in the right paperwork etc,” says Steve Martin, Managing Director of Xmo Strata. “It's about going that extra mile to create a safe working environment for everyone on-site. Employees will be rewarded for their ability to identify and eliminate risks at source, demonstrate a forward thinking approach to safety, and improve the quality of their near-miss reporting.”

Awards such as this would ordinarily be offered as an incentive to sales people working in target-driven environments, but Mr Martin says the company wants to demonstrate the value that Xmo Strata places on the safety of its employees and those around them by rewarding highly.

“Good health and safety procedures and training are grossly underestimated by many firms in this industry. It's often not until an accident happens and they receive a crippling legal bill that they start to take it seriously.

“With the right safety training, discipline and tools, the risk of accidents occurring can be significantly reduced. If we can motivate employees to enhance their safety awareness further than that of company requirements, to me that's priceless,” adds Mr Martin.

The 2008 safety day saw a record attendance for Xmo Strata, including over 70 employees, sub-contractors and senior representatives from the firm's client base. The winners of the trip to New York will be announced at the next Safety Day in December.
