Worker Hit By Car
5th November 2009
Please follow the link below to a self explanatory safety alert and message.
This incident could have been very serious or even fatal, the worker was fortunate to only suffer minor injuries and be banned form working on Esso sites.
The worker had all the equipment he needed to do this safely, but decided he could do without as the work would only take a minute - this decision almost killed him.
There were two other contractors working on the site, they had closed off one of the lanes with a poor standard of barriers, they also witnessed the injured party working without barriers but did nothing to address this - they were banned from working on Esso sites for 3 months because of their breach of the golden safety rules.
Remember, always follow your procedures, always carry out a LMRA (Last Minute Risk Assessment) and always intervene if you witness somebody doing something unsafe. Even if you don't care that they might get injured, you will care if you loose your job because you didn't talk to them.
