Glove Specifications - Avoid Bloodshed: Think Protection

17th September 2009

We have listened to feedback from site teams who have been struggling to remember the order of resistance ratings regarding their work gloves.

This is crucial!

The only way to be sure you are using appropriate gloves is to check the numbers printed on the back. These will tell you how resistant the gloves are to Abrasion, Blade cuts, Tears and Punctures.

All JSA/SMSs were amended this year to include minimum glove ratings for EVERY task. The management audit form will also now require us to check and record the compliance of all gloves with the specifications on the JSA/SMS.

With this in mind, we have developed a glove specification card which will fit easily inside your safety helmet - Avoid Bloodshed: Think Protection.

This card will be handed to you by your supervisor during the relevant toolbox talk and will also form part of management audits where you may be asked to recall the ratings, or show that the card is easily accessible.

REMEMBER (from left to right)

Abrasion Blade Tear Puncture
Avoid Bloodshed Think Protection

When you have received this card, you must keep it with you at all times. Remember the acronym Avoid Bloodshed: Think Protection and keep Xmo Strata sites safe.

If you require additional copies of the glove specification card, please inform a supervisor or call the office on 0845 2300 460.
