Site Robbery
6th August 2009
Please see below self explanatory Memo.
From: Martin Rackley HSSE Manager, BP/Bovis Global Alliance
Date: 29.06.09
A robbery took place on one of our construction sites last week. Two men in a white transit van tricked the site security guard into letting them on site at 20:00 hrs. While one acted as look out, the other moved equipment including drills and a compactor machine from the storage cabin into their van.
They then rammed the site gates several times before making their escape.
The police investigation is still ongoing at this time.

Lessons Learnt:
- The thieves parked in front of the site gates and produced fake ID cards with the Principal Contractor logo and their photos. They requested access to the site and explained they needed to do urgent work on the pipe work.
- The mistake of the guard was to unlock the gate BEFORE he called the Principal Contractor Site Manager.
- After speaking to the PC Site Manager the guard realised his mistake and told them to put the tools back and leave site. The guard then tried to grab their van key and was punched in the face.
- DO NOT LET ANYONE ONTO THE SITE (APART FROM EMERGENCY SERVICES) OUT OF HOURS WITHOUT CHECKING WITH THE PRINCIPAL CONTRACTOR FIRST.
- AVOID CONFRONTATION - DON'T PUT YOURSELF AT RISK. CALL THE POLICE.
- MAKE SURE THE SECURITY GUARD HAS ALL THE SITE EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS.
