A customer of Xmo Strata’s has recently issued a notice to all maintenance contractors advising that they are regularly finding waste material left on site after contractors have left. This waste includes signage, bricks, shelves and bags of concrete.
The dumping of this waste not only presents a poor image of their company (and the company actually leaving it), it is also dangerous, being a trip hazard with potentially sharp edges, and can also be a shelter for vermin. Waste signage stored on site is a particular hazard in high winds.
Any waste left on site is inexcusable. All waste must be disposed of in the skip provided, or taken away from the site.
We have a duty of care to ensure that we do not leave any materials or waste on site that could present a hazard.
This duty of care includes the responsibility to ensure any plant or materials that are to be off-hired, or collected later (e.g. Heras fencing) are safely stored. Ensure any fencing or materials left on site are appropriately located, away from fire exits, and secured so that they cannot blow over, or present a trip or cut hazard. Ensure the site manager knows where the material/plant is, and that the hire company has been informed to collect it as soon as possible.
