Weather warning
24th November 2005
In the months of December and January, there are an inevitable increased number of call outs relating to wind damaged Signware (canopies in particular). It is essential to consider weather conditions in relation to the job at hand.
Please note the following points:
- Drive safely, observing speed limits and being vigilant in looking out for icy roads. (Better not to be dead on time than to be dead on arrival).
- Beware of ground conditions affected by rain, snow or frost.
- NEVER work at height without first completing a Working at Height checklist.
- ALWAYS check windspeed with the anemometer provided and do not work at height if above 24mph (Force 5).
- Do not work on an icy or slippery working platform.
- Beware of items falling from canopies in high winds – if in doubt, close the site.
- If dangerous items cannot be rectified because of wind speed and there is still a danger, encourage the site to call the Fire Brigade.
- Do not enter any excavation, manhole or tunnel that could become slippery or be at risk of flooding.
